ABOUT US
We are yoga practitioners and bodyworkers who practise, study and enquire every day. We help people transform their lives and enable them to stay healthy physically and mentally, no matter what life throws at them

We met in Mysore, India, in January 2009, when Marcos was about to register for class with Sharath Jois at the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute. Marcos didn’t speak much English, Joyce didn’t speak Spanish but there was definitely a spark! After a few months in India, we returned to Europe and, soon after, Marcos moved to London, where we now live.

Since then, we’ve run Ashtanga Mysore classes together, taught retreats worldwide, travelled extensively in India, started rock climbing in Europe, hung out with friends and family, and drunk a lot of coffee! And at the centre of it all is our shared love for Ashtanga Yoga.

ABOUT JOYCE MCMIKEN
Joyce has been practising and studying yoga since 2001 and started teaching in 2007

Scottish-born Joyce is an authorised KPJAYI Ashtanga teacher, senior restorative yoga teacher, soft-tissue and remedial massage therapist, and a registered mindfulness teacher with BAMBA. Her path has been shaped by many years travelling to India, where she developed a deep interest in yoga philosophy. In 2018 she earned an MA with Distinction in the Traditions of Yoga and Meditation from London University’s School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), exploring the shared roots of the Pātañjali Yoga Sūtras and early Buddhist thought in her dissertation. Over the years, her love of yoga and meditation has grown stronger by the day.

Joyce teaches Ashtanga yoga according to the traditional method (Mysore self-practice and led Sanskrit counted classes), restorative yoga and weekly meditation. She also leads the eight-week MBSR programme and offers restorative yoga teacher training. Her teaching emphasises the intimate connection between body, mind and breath, guiding students to cultivate calm, presence and awareness through both movement and stillness. Her teaching draws on classical texts and the poetry of writers such as Mary Oliver and her classes are accessible to everyone irrespective of age or fitness level.

Joyce practised with Sharath Jois in Mysore from 2007 until his death in 2024. Her teaching has been shaped primarily by Richard Freeman, Rolf Naujokat, Alaric Newcombe, Judith Hanson Lasater, Rod Stryker and Shri O. P. Tiwari. More recently, she has studied with Tsoknyi Rinpoche and regularly attends Vipassanā and Dzogchen silent retreats.

Joyce also holds a BTEC Level 5 Diploma in Soft Tissue Therapy from LSSM and has trained in multiple healing modalities. Most recently, she has begun offering Spinal Energetics, a practice that works with the body’s subtle energy to release deeply held patterns of tension and resistance.

When not teaching, Joyce enjoys challenging her fear of heights through rock climbing!

ABOUT MARCOS RODRIGUEZ

Marcos is a KPJAYI authorised level I teacher, Yoga Alliance senior teacher and BTEC Level 5 Soft Tissue & Remedial Massage therapist by the London School of Sports Massage.

Growing up in Asturias in the North of Spain, Marcos has always felt a strong connection with nature and was an avid rock climber throughout his twenties. Life brought Marcos to yoga and meditation in 2003. In 2006 he walked into a Mysore style class and instantly felt that the missing piece in a jigsaw had just been presented to him. In December 2008, on the recommendation of his teacher, he made his first trip to Mysore, India to study with Sharath Rangaswamy at KPJAYI. Since then he has made several trips to India to deepen his practice.

Marcos now lives in London teaching Ashtanga Yoga, studying to become an osteopath and providing massage treatments to people with injuries and conditions. He brings a desire to help others, a healthy interest in anatomy and a meditative quality to his classes and massage practice. Marcos continues to climb and be amazed by the power of Ashtanga and its potential to transform lives. He feels deep gratitude to all his teachers, past and present.
