Ashtanga Yoga Retreat (11 nights)

Saturday 21/09/19 – Wednesday 02/10/19

Basunti is an idyllic private lakeside retreat in the foot hills of The Himalayas. Set in beautiful tropical gardens with orange, mango, lychee and peach trees, “So laidback, it’s almost horizontal” is how Harpers & Queen described the rural atmosphere at Basunti. The secluded swimming pool is situated among papaya trees and vivid bougainvillea flowers, where guests can relax and enjoy exquisite views over the lake.

On arrival at Basunti there will be seven Ashtanga Mysore classes, one led Ashtanga class, five afternoon restorative yoga and meditation classes and three conferences.  The classes will take place in Basunti’s open air, thatched, yoga shala which has a cool marble floor and is situated within the beautiful gardens where large poinsettias, flowering hibiscus and wild cactus frame stunning views over the surrounding lake.  This is a unique and outstanding venue. One of our students in 2017 said this poem by Paul Zimmer summed up the retreat for her.

“The Place”

Once in your life you pass
Through a place so pure
It becomes tainted even
By your regard, a space
Of trees and air where
Dusk comes as perfect ripeness.
Here the only sounds are
Sighs of rain and snow,
Small rustlings of plants
As they unwrap in twilight.
This is where you will go
At last when coldness comes.
It is something you realize
When you first see it,
But instantly forget.
At the end of your life
You remember and dwell in
Its faultless light forever.
